Halloween Spooktacular 2014

By the pricking of my thumbs,
Something wicked this way comes…
(W. Shakespeare)

Yes indeed, it’s that time of year again peeps, we’re dusting off our broomsticks and heading over to Kingston for another Halloween Spooktacular. We’ll be landing in Kingston Ancient Market Place on 30th October from 5pm to 10pm and you can expect wickedly good food, drink and shopping from our amazing line up of street food traders, bespoke drinks, crafts and trick or treat happenings. We’re thrilled to be introducing some new faces on the eating and shopping front to this year’s Kingston coven and we know you’re going to love them. The thirsty amongst you will be able to sup on craft beers from South West London’s best microbreweries like By the Horns, Rocky Head and Cronx and quaff delicious cocktails made by mixologists who’ve created drinks lists for the likes of The Savoy, The Wolsey and Balthazar.

Our Halloween happening wouldn’t be the same without the students from the Illustration and Animation Department at Kingston University, so they’re back. They’ve devised a unique set of eccentric spooky sideshows just for you. Expect to be entertained, amused, bemused, surprised and ever so slightly scared by some very creative uses of the town centre’s spaces.

As always, you can expect a night filled with great music. We’re over the moon that the brilliant Voodoo Love Orchestra are joining us from their Brighton crypt to play their scary brand of ‘zombie ska’ and Kingston StockMKT favourite, DJ Nervous Stephen, will be back too  – expect at least three spins of Ghostbusters!

So many reasons to come and join us, so get it in your diary, tell your friends and family and we’ll see you on the 30th. Oh, and whilst not compulsary, costumes are most definitely encouraged!

The StockMKT at Elefest 2014

We return, this Saturday night to headline Elefest 2014, the annual festival of music, theatre, film, art and community participation that takes place all over Elephant & Castle. This year The StockMKT, for the third time at Elefest, will offer our magical mix of London’s best street food, live music and DJs. There will also be magnificent cocktails, wines you’ve probably never heard of and craft lager for the hipsters of course!

We’ve got DJs Dave the Hat and Soho Pirate, Glyn on the decks and we’re super-thrilled to have the funky, soulful Brazilian ska/funk band, The Fontanas performing. Specialists at whipping the crowd in to a funky Latin frenzy, the Fontanas have been rocking stages from Bestival to Glastonbury; the Secret Garden Party to Boomtown this summer. Positive & totally feelgood, their sound combines funky Brazilian refrains with jump-up ska. For more info: Facebook / Twitter / Bookings

We have street food aplenty to blow people’s taste buds: Abycina (Vegan Ethiopian/Eritrean) Souvlaki St (proper Greek kebabs); Makatcha (amazing Malaysian flavours), Bhangra Burger (the return of our very first night market headliner); Colonel Toms (deep south style Gumbo & Cornbread); Kansas City’s mighty Prairie Fire (barbecue brisket); and Yu Kyu, our favourite, Japanese Katsu King. For pudding? We’ve got Custom Creams debuting their winter offer: waffles with nitrogen crèmes and ice creams

Jensen’s vs. Lot 9 = Gin vs. Absinthe We have a cocktail-clash. Bermondsey small batch gin purveyors Jensen’s will take on Peckham’s absinthe specialists Lot 9 in a specially constructed ‘potting shed’. The Longwave Craft Beer Bar will have hoppy brews from Bermondsey brewing legends Kernel and Partizan. Bermondsey Gin / Lot 9

VISUALS from Electric Pedals’ bike powered cinema + Frack OffElectric Pedals will be projecting films by Vivienne Westwood’s eco-collaborators Frack Off, as well as Elephant’s very own London College of Communication. For over five years, Electric Pedals have been using the energy generated by people riding bicycles to power cinemas, music venues, radio stations, theatre productions, art installations and educational workshops. All of this without using a single battery!

We think that’s plenty of good reasons to come and join us, so get it in the diary and we’ll see you on Saturday lovely peeps!

Autumnal events: Thrice as nice

“By all these lovely tokens
September days are here,
With summer’s best of weather
And autumn’s best of cheer.”
-   Helen Hunt Jackson, September, 1830-1885

Autumn brings not one, not two but THREE events for y’all to come and enjoy.

First up is Bermondsey Square, 20th Sept- we’ll be animating the square just as the Bermondsey Street Festival winds down, so you can keep the party spirit going with The StockMKT well into the evening. As always, we’ll be bringing you our usual array of London’s most talented so you can shop, eat, drink and dance the night away. Further information will be on our twitter and faceboook pages and a list of the night’s StockMKTeers can be found here.

Our last event in Bermondsey Sq - 'Samba Spectacular'

The second of our autumn events falls on Sat 4th Oct and it’s one of our favourite gigs of the year – The StockMKT at Elefest. We’ll be back for our third consecutive appearance at Elephant & Castle’s brilliant, annual festival, now in it’s 12th year. With the rare luxury of a roof, we’ll be taking over a massive warehouse and we’ve got lots of great stuff up our sleeves to keep you entertained, scratch your shopping itch and fill your bellies. We’ll be announcing more details closer to the event, so keep your eyes peeled over on our twitter feed and facebook page.

You can find out more about Elefest on their website, twitter feed and facebook page.

The StockMKT - Kingston, Halloween 2013

May magic and summer fiestas.

What a magical month May was for The StockMKT! We had two brilliant events in the same week, the first in Kingston and the second being our long-awaited return to Bermondsey Square. We had amazing sunshine, fantastic traders, artists, artistes and wonderful visitors, who came in their droves. We had a top-tier lineup of streetfood and art, craft and fashion traders; the ever-eclectic mix of tunes as spun by the Culture Cuts DJs; live music from Jerimiah Marques & The Blue Aces; a string quartet playing on the balcony of Bermondsey Square Hotel; and great American songbook classics from Kenny Clayton & Paul Ryan – we were also super-thrilled to welcome The Drawing Club with their interactive mural, the Drawing Wall. Thanks to everyone who traded, visited, performed and created, we can’t wait to do it all again.

Sadly, due to unforseen technical issues with the newly regenerated market place in Kingston, we’ve had to postpone our 24th June event but fear not, we’ll be back to launch the fabulous Kingston Food Festival on 31st July, more details about that soon. Next up though is Bermondsey Square on Saturday 12th July for more shenanigans in the sunshine (we like to be optimistic). Come and join us as we fiesta in Bermondsey Square, as only the StockMKT can. Get those dates in your smart phones, diaries, tablets and such lovely peeps and we’ll see you soon for more StockMKT merrymaking.

“As full of spirit, as the month of May….”

The glorious, oft-quoted, month of May is bursting with exciting events for us and we couldn’t be happier. For four days over the bank holiday weekend, we were proud to contribute a tiny taste of the StockMKT to the enormous Streets of Spain event down on The Southbank. However, our attention is now fully focused on not just one, but two fabulous full-blown StockMKTs for you to come and enjoy this month. First up is Kingston Memorial Sq, 15 May (5.30-10pm) and then we have a big reunion with our spiritual home, Bermonsey Sq on 17 May (4-10pm). We have events set up on facebook (links below), so please do add yourselves and invite your friends and family – keep an eye on our twitter feed and facebook posts for further info on who and what to expect.
